Folding Rituals, Wednesday 22 July 2015
The morning and afternoon groups worked with watercolour inks and by folding paper to paint and print an image that left the marks of how it was created as the ink gathered in the folds.
Howard folding the paper whilst the ink is still wet to print from one part of the page to the other.
The process continues by adding more ink and folding again. Howard got some interesting textures by rubbing in a circular motion when the page for folded.
Gary finds some interesting angles to fold the paper and transfer ink across the paper.
Gary's vibrant picture unfolded.
The afternoon group started with a giant joint painting and folded it into a small shape together.
Painting with the inks, some of the group folded the paper in half which gave some symmetry to the work.
Paul used bold colours and brush strokes and allowed the ink to pool in the folds of the paper.
Andrew used a fantastic combination of colours and the inks mingled in the folds to create new colours.
Jenny folded her painting creating a paper sculpture.
Jenny's painting unfolded.
Some of the finished work drying in the studio.
A finished painting revealing all the folds and the layers of ink as the image is built up.
